The Thoroughly Modern Megan (& Harry!)

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last month, you would know that Prince Harry of Wales married Megan Markle yesterday in a beautifully intimate ceremony, despite the 600 guests inside the chapel, the 2600 guests invited to the grounds of Windsor Castle and oh, the millions of us who viewed the event!  

The extraordinary thing about this wedding was not the tradition or the pageantry which were both on full display, it was simply the two people at the centre of it all.  Harry who has been cast as a modern prince carving out his own legacy married Megan, a slightly older, biracial, once married American actress who is a child and gender activist  and  who was also carving out her own legacy. 

These two people falling in love and getting married is significant because of the number of lines that have been crossed.  The breaking up of the notions of class and race, alongside the idea that a Prince can marry a strong, outspoken woman who is successful in her own right...that's the fairy tale that we at Shades of Influence believe in!  

There are events in our lives that bind us together and Royal Weddings are one of them.  Everyone remembers when Charles married Diana and when William married Kate.  This wedding, however, has struck a real chord with the world and we won't forget it for a long time.  We look on with great anticipation to what this couple will accomplish.
