Take Care Of Yourself
Shades readers, you may have heard the term Self Care and thought, is this a real thing? Well, it really is!
Self Care is about making sure you are ok, not just from a physical perspective but also from a mental and spiritual perspective as well.
Our days are often full of activities, work and other demands, which can get overwhelming. Being busy can make us feel like we have a purpose or help us to feel accomplished but we also need to balance ourselves so that we don’t feel anxious or stressed.
Sometimes we need to just stop for a moment to breathe. We need to make sure we are doing things to nourish ourselves physically and mentally, being mindful (which we covered last week) and forgiving about the things we have not done or accomplished.
Think about when you are on a plane and the flight attendant is going through the safety checks - they always say in case of an emergency, put your oxygen mask on first before assisting others - if we don't take care of ourselves, we may not be able to take care of anyone else.
So what activities do you like to do to nourish yourself? Some people like to read, to get outside, to meditate, to cook…I love to go to plays and to travel – being immersed in all of those different worlds, both on stage and in other places, can be amazing and I always feel grateful and great when I take that time.
