The Relationships You Form...
--
Hello, World!
Today marks a year since I was admitted to the hospital due to an infection in my right toe. It was a very scary time for me as I subsequently spent a week and then three more days in the hospital, followed by almost three months of home care with nurses who visited me every day to treat me with intravenous antibiotics. It was harrowing, to say the least, and I wrote a bit about it at that time in a piece called This Blog Could Save Your Life (Click Here)
If you haven’t already, you should give it a quick read.
As we focus on relationships this month and as I think about what I went through back then, my thoughts are revolving heavily on the people I met along the way. From all of the doctors who treated me, the technicians who took endless scans, the administrative employees who spoke to me and the nurses who literally nursed me back to health, relationships were formed in that three month period that I will never forget. My best memories are with my home care nurses who came in every day. I was their patient but for that period of time, we became friends. As we grew to know each other, we covered topics like different cuisines, my home décor, online shopping, makeup and skincare, relationships and believe it or not, French Existentialism. Every day for 20-30 minutes, while antibiotics were being pumped into me and my vitals were being taken, we had good conversation and some laughs. Those moments carried me during my illness.
So Shades Readers, don’t underestimate any of the relationships or connections you make as you traverse through life regardless of the situations you are in.
Finally, to Monisha, Cindy, Michael, Katie, Heidi, Lindsey, Dr. Nadarajah and many others, thank you so much for taking care of me during my illness. I am forever grateful.
