Making A Connection

--

Ok Shades Readers, admittedly, we’ve been a little heavy with our blogging the last few weeks – there has been so much happening in the world!  Of course, we know that controversy and difficulty will never end but this week, we are going to lighten things up a bit!

For those of you who do not know, we live in the Greater Toronto Area which refers to Toronto and its environs.  Toronto is known as the city of Neighbourhoods as there are a ton of distinct ethnic and cultural communities residing within the city limits.  The diversity is immense and you can see just how many different ethnicities have settled here by the food selection alone.  From bibimpap to churrasco and everything in between, Toronto’s residents can have their choice of almost any type of food and spend time learning about that particular culture as well.

I remember reading a quote once that said something along these lines – if your friends and people in your circle look like you or have the same interests as you, expand your circle.  What it means, really, is that we have a great opportunity to learn about our vast world so why not try a different cuisine or travel somewhere or simply engage in a conversation with someone who is different from you.  You may realize both differences and commonalities while you are at it.

If you are lucky enough to live in a very multicultural city like Toronto, make sure you take advantage of its diversity.  If diverse experiences are not so plentiful where you are, make them possible by doing some research on your city – you may be surprised at what you find.

Either way, Shades readers, get out there and do some exploring – it is in those moments of learning about others that we   can find connections.
